Let’s get into the trends of 2025. First and foremost, as I’ve discussed in several email newsletters and in articles and recently in a podcast episode, the whole class of GLP ones, glucagon like peptide one receptor drugs used mainly these days for weight loss, that entire category is only going to grow bigger and larger with the release of several new substances to the market likely this year.
Nick Urban [00:03:14]:
If you’ve heard of semaglutide, tirzepatide, most recently, Retratid, which go by the names Ozempic and Wegovy, Monjaro, all these, they’ve been taking the wellness world by storm of late and for good reason because they work. They’re quite powerful. And as a result, I expect we’re gonna see more and more GLP one substances that hit the market. A lot more supplements like this one I have right here called Calocarb, which is a natural alternative that still effectively increases GLP one levels to blunt appetite and cravings, but with a much more biocompatible half life and dose response curve. If you you wanna learn more about that one specifically, you can check out my episode with doctor Edward Walker back on number one ninety three. Not only will there be more drugs and related supplements that hit the market, but you’re also going to see more ways of using the GLP ones. The injectables will continue to grow, but I foresee other forms in related molecules also becoming popular, such as oral capsules where the GLP one doesn’t last for the full hundred and sixty hours that the original molecule of semaglutide does. What I like about this and the natural alternative I have right here, Calocarb, is that your GLP one levels come back down as they naturally would be before you go to sleep.
Nick Urban [00:04:43]:
So you’re not sleeping with super physiological high levels of GLP one. I interviewed Zach Lowenstein, biohack Zach on Instagram. That episode will be coming out soon. But he mentioned that during his experiments with some of the GLP ones, while they worked, they also significantly disrupted his nervous system. The increased resting heart rate, the lower HRV, all of these biomarkers were reflected very quickly on his wearable data. And he also said he felt the difference. Because while it has its time and place, dramatically jacking up GLP one like this adds stress to the body. So a more precise dosing curve around it makes sense and I think will also be very effective, especially for the healthy folks looking to utilize GLP ones without some of the downside.
Nick Urban [00:05:39]:
Since some of the research also suggests that using these substances can result in more lean tissue loss, the muscle, the connective tissue, the organ tissue, these types of things, which is always present during weight loss, but it’s especially high from the use of these substances. There’ll be more companies popping up that help service this market, essentially providing essential amino acids, the simplest building blocks of protein, as well as nutrient dense sources of polyphenols, the greens and reds powders, ketone esters, digestive enzymes, those biochemical supports, but then also the lifestyle coaching, making sure that users are getting plenty of sleep, they’re exercising, managing stress, chewing more for every meal because there are definitely ways of mitigating the lean tissue loss that occurs with these. So this is gonna be a huge growing industry in 2025 and beyond. Number two, we’re going to see major innovations in the at home health diagnostics and self quantification data world. There are all kinds of really cool companies making waves and bringing the cost down and the technology, the predictive power of these diagnostics up, partially because of AI, partially because of new technologies, partially because they’re now rapidly growing their database, and their algorithms are improving. One that I’m very excited about, I actually have over here to the side of me, and it is called True Health. It’s made by the same company that does true age biological age testing. That company is called True Diagnostic, and it’s an entirely new category of test that they’re making available to consumers.
Nick Urban [00:07:28]:
Basically, if you’ve heard of the company that turned out to be a massive scam, Theranos, it’s like that, but they’re actually doing things right. And from a tiny, tiny, minuscule amount of blood, They can give you more biomarkers and actionable data than the most comprehensive blood panels today and way more. This is also promising to solve a lot of controversial questions, such as which NAD booster, which NAD precursor nicotinamide riboside, NR, or nicotinamide mononucleotide, NMN, is superior. I expect this test to end a bunch of those debates, and they’re actually gonna be publishing research helping us better uncover which therapeutics, which molecules actually work, and not just work in general, but work for the individual, work for you. What’s really impressive, though, is the predictive power of these tests. They’re no longer just telling you what broad biomarker is out of balance, but they are moving towards being able to help you understand what’s at the root of any imbalances. After I try the True Health, I’m going to have Ryan Smith back on the podcast to discuss this new blood test and why it’s poised to become the new de facto gold standard lab test that replaces your traditional blood test you get when you go into the doctor’s office. But TruDiagnostic and their TruHealth product, that’s not the only thing that’s coming.
Nick Urban [00:08:55]:
There’s also a company called MeScreen, which is able to quantify the health and efficiency of your mitochondria at home. And according to the bioenergetic health or cellular energy first paradigm, all disease and conditions are downstream of issues with cellular energy production. So by understanding mitochondria, you’re able to better address any issues before they become problematic. There are also some other companies doing metabolomics. One called Theriome Theriome. Not sure how it’s pronounced. That one looks promising too. And then a company called Cyphox that does traditional lab blood testing for a fraction of the cost that that anyone else is able to.
Nick Urban [00:09:42]:
And then the platform that doctor Mark Hyman cofounded called Function Health, and they are also bringing very thorough, comprehensive blood labs down to cheaper than what you can get in the doctor’s office. Plus, they’re testing way more biomarkers. This is one area that I’m very fascinated by, specifically the newest generation of biological clocks, epigenetic methylation clocks, which can tell us which interventions work without having to wait seventy, eighty, ninety years to study a population and see how many of them died. Alright. Number three is around peptides and bioregulators. These substances were considered underground just a couple years ago. Now every sauna session of mine in the gym, I overhear at least one person asking their buddies what peptides they’re currently running. And not just in the gym, but I’ve overheard conversations about peptides in restaurants, on the plane.
Nick Urban [00:10:43]:
And, yes, the GLP one drugs I mentioned earlier are technically peptides. They fall into this category. What I find fascinating about it, though, is that there’s increasing awareness outside of the household staples. If you’ve listened to many podcasts on this, you’ll know that BPC one five seven, TB four or TB 500, thymosin alpha one, TA one, copper peptide, GHKCU. Those are some of the big ones among all the growth hormone secretagogues. But there’s also a bunch of smaller peptides that are being used in novel products, but a lot of these peptides haven’t caught on because they have required injections. Certain companies are changing that, and they’re bringing effective peptides to us through different delivery mechanisms. For example, a company called LevelUp Health, which makes some of the most advanced and my favorite supplement formulations on the market, introduced the very first liposomal copper peptide, which can pass through the lining of the stomach without getting degraded.
Nick Urban [00:11:46]:
So it can exert the systemic benefits without getting broken down in the stomach. They also did that with BPC one five seven and more recently, the thymus in beta t b four fragments. And there’s only gonna be more innovation in this space as well. But it’s not just new delivery mechanisms that allow us to get more through oral capsules or through transdermal on the skin, but also a lot of really cool novel peptides that are being discovered and used in products. More on that another day. Regardless, it’s really exciting what therapeutic peptides and bioregulators can do. There’s a doctor Bill Lawrence in The US who is really pioneering a lot of the modern research on bioregulator peptides. And his work has shown remarkable longevity benefits from very short courses of these tiny, tiny chains of amino acids, far smaller than proteins, smaller than even peptides.
Nick Urban [00:12:47]:
If you’ve used peptides or bioregulators, I’d like to hear from you. Go ahead and shoot me a message. If you’ve used peptides or bioregulators, drop a comment below this video or shoot me a message on Instagram. I’d love to hear your experience. I’ve also written up a guide on therapeutic peptides for every use and one on bioregulators, so those will be in the show notes here. Alright. On to the next one. One that’s inevitable is the integration and implementation of more artificial intelligence, AI, into not just daily routines, but also application for consumers on the health side.
Nick Urban [00:13:28]:
There’s gonna be a lot more third party platforms bridging the gap between self quantification data from things like the Apple Watch, the Whoop, Oura Ring, the Ultrahuman, and then the quantitative, the things that the states that we don’t necessarily write down anywhere. We’re gonna be able to copy our information from these different sources, from a CSV download, or just copy the text on the screen, paste that along with our latest Blood Labs, all into ChatGPT or Claude or Google Gemini or a bunch of these other platforms. And based on our background and different things, these platforms can help piece together the data, seamlessly merging the qualitative and quantitative to help us understand what’s going on at the 10,000 foot overview. I’ve already been doing this for a while, and it gives me much better answers to a lot of my questions than the most astute physicians that I’ve seen. Simply because AI is excellent, better than humans at pattern matching specifically. It’s certainly not gonna replace any health professionals because it’s not trained on all the best data, so it can give bad advice. And there is skill to prompting it to produce the best possible outputs. But integrating AI into the world of health optimization is going to grow massively over the next year and next couple years.
Nick Urban [00:14:57]:
Number five on the list of twenty twenty five trends is an increased importance and emphasis on gut therapeutics, specifically on restoring an optimal gut microbiome and then getting our gut microbiome, the microbes in there, to become like manufacturing facilities, like a pharmacy for creating the substances that we want and need most, whether that’s GLP one, whether that’s short chain fatty acids like butyrate and propionate and acetate. But not just that, also certain amino acids, nitric oxide, peptides. Yes. Again, peptides. Polyamines like spermidine and spermine, substances that are taken for their longevity and health span increasing effects, vitamins, specifically vitamin k and some b vitamins, neurotransmitters, bile acids, hydrogen gas, as well as other metabolites. Previous guests like Joel Green also mentioned how there are three distinct genomes in the body. There’s the human genome, you have your mitochondrial genome, and then you have your gut genome. And if you can’t, for example, tolerate lactose or gluten very well, there’s ways to manipulate the gut microbiome specifically to just eliminate that intolerance.
Nick Urban [00:16:31]:
Now, of course, proceed with caution. This doesn’t work for allergies, merely for food sensitivities, but this is still a very uncharted territory that we’re only now beginning to understand, and we still have a long ways to go. Speaking of that, number six is a general movement towards systemic health. Now you can call that holistic health, integrative health, whatever you want, but really understanding that each system of the body, each organ, they’re all interconnected. So if you have great cardiovascular health, but you completely neglect your oral health, your biomarkers and overall health will eventually reflect that. Back to the gut example, leaky gut influences, connects allergies and headaches and migraines and asthma, problems with the skin, joints, inflammation, hives, even airway issues, and a whole lot more. So this is a trend that I’m very excited about because medicine for so long has looked at each body part as separate, and a specialist in the finger will not consult or talk to a specialist in the liver. And AI should also make this more effective by prompting it properly.
Nick Urban [00:17:54]:
We can understand through the different interconnected systems of the world how one thing influences another. As a personal example of this, I worked with a bodyworker last year who noticed that I’ve had a long standing ankle injury. Now you wouldn’t think that an ankle injury would have much impact on the body outside of the ankle, but in my case, that caused a compensation pattern that went up my entire body, caused a little bit of pelvic torsion, which then caused some exaggerated curvature in my spine, which then impacted my cervical vertebrae, which then went back down and influenced my breathing. So, yes, an ankle injury influenced my respiratory pattern. And by working on the ankle, my baseline stress decreased. So this is a trend I am all for. It’s about time, and I think this is gonna take a little more than one year for the general consensus to come around. I’m pegging that more around the five to ten year mark.
Nick Urban [00:18:59]:
To support this systemic overall full body health, we’ll have more focus on number seven, and that is the foundational nutrients that power humans, specifically things like the minerals. I’m talking salt or sodium chloride, which has been vilified for a very long time. It’s essential, and a lot of us are deficient in salt, not just sodium, but the chloride also and other electrolytes. The book that really changed my mind on salt five or so years ago was called The Salt Fix, and it dispels a lot of myths around salt and how salt deficiency is actually quite common, especially in the active population. Depending on your diet and your overall insulin levels, you may be excreting more salt and electrolytes anyway. While salt is critical, it’s not the end all be all. If you’ve listened to many of these episodes, you know I’m a huge fan of the essential nutrients the body cannot do without the in fact, that you would die without. Those include the nine essential amino acids.
Nick Urban [00:20:09]:
Those include the minerals and also the trace minerals. But in reality, no one dies of deficiency of the essential fatty acids. The requirement is so low that it’s very easy to get from any diet. For me, essential amino acids and minerals are foundational. When you get enough minerals, everything else in the body works better, and all the other substances you’re taking are more effective. I’ve written articles on these topics as well, which will be in the description. And my favorite sources of minerals are certainly Shilajit and also a good high quality ionic mineral product. Shilajit’s really cool because it enhances your ability to absorb and assimilate anything else that you combine with it, whether that’s a food, that’s a supplement, that would also be a drug.
Nick Urban [00:21:02]:
So if you’re taking drugs, make sure to check with your medical provider first. But Shilajit also contains around 80 minuteerals in their highly absorbable ionic form. It’s been called the destroyer of weakness, the nectar of the gods, and prized by all of the cultures that had access to it. Shilajit also contains trace amounts of amino acids. It contains, actually, some natural carbon 60, which I recently discovered. I’ll put a link to that study in the show notes. It also has fulvic and humic acids. It’s the best natural source of them, which help with detoxification, cellular energy and metabolism, hormone optimization, a slight hunger reduction, athletic performance and recovery benefits, and so much more.
Nick Urban [00:21:51]:
That’s one of the reasons that I take Shilajit every day, and I’ve noticed that it’s starting to become a lot more popular than it was just a handful of years ago. So before going on to the flashy supplements, make sure you have your foundational nutritional bases covered. And, yes, even if you’re eating the cleanest, most pristine, high quality, biodynamic, regenerative, wild caught, organic, fair trade diet, you’re still gonna have nutrient deficiencies because of because of a litany of factors that I’ve described previously. So start with the foundations. Another trend that I am all about is number eight on this list, a reversion to bioharmony, working with the body instead of against it to get better long term results. And this is also a return to nature. It seems that everyone these days is talking about the importance of getting light exposure, getting outside in the morning, going on walks, sleeping right, and doing the basics before going on to the fancy stuff. I always ask my guests about their daily nonnegotiables.
Nick Urban [00:23:04]:
And for me, as far as I can remember, a nice long morning walk in the direct sunlight has been one of those, even when I’m in areas that don’t get a lot of natural light. Light is so much more than just vitamin d and or a way of resetting circadian health. Light activates an entire biological cascade of effects from mood and mental health to immunity to cognition and blood pressure regulation to hormonal balance and well beyond. One of the best things I do for myself every day is to get out for at least ten minutes in the morning, usually more like thirty to forty five. But if you’re strapped in time, spending ten, fifteen minutes out in nature will do wonders. You get the fractal patterns from being around any wildlife, whether it’s trees or plants or grass. You get the terpenes and other things in the air that help balance and regulate the nervous system. You could even use that opportunity to go barefoot and to ground or earth yourself.
Nick Urban [00:24:11]:
If that’s not an option, you can use grounding shoes. In the symphony of processes occurring in the human body, light acts like one of the conductors, really making sure that everything aligns, all your biological clocks line up and work effectively. So light is a big one for me. And thanks to other podcasters and educators and scientists, it’s becoming well accepted in the zeitgeist. I also have, as anyone tuning into the video version of this can see, a bright light inside here. Next to me on one side, I have a near infrared bulb over on my other side. I have some full spectrum lights over here. I have become a light fanatic.
Nick Urban [00:24:57]:
And if you can’t get outside, you can at least harness the best of modern technology to make sure that you get your light indoors at the appropriate time. And part of the reversion to nature is the appropriate light exposure, getting plenty of red and infrared in the early morning, bright blue, white light in the late morning, early afternoon, and then back towards the evening again, getting bright blue, white, and even a little bit of UV, UVA and UVB light in the late morning, early afternoon when the sun’s rays naturally have that, and then back to the red and infrared spectrum later in the evening can do wonders for health. We’re also rediscovering some of the nuance that the original biohackers from traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda and other ancestral medicines knew thousands of years ago. And it’s not just the color of the light that matters, but also the intensity of it, the contrast of the light on the background behind the light, also the height of the light. Red light coming from way above you is not natural because when the sun sets and rises, the time when it’s highest in red and infrared is around sunset and sunrise when it’s just over the horizon. So there will be more understanding into the nuances of light over the coming months and years as science puts a larger emphasis on the role of light and human biology. I’m gonna go ahead and lump this one into the same category. But for years, global measures prevented us from gathering in person, and some local in person communities and groups disbanded a bit in 2025.
Nick Urban [00:26:40]:
That seems to be changing as the digital communities are great, really helpful. I’m personally a part of a bunch of them and get a lot out of it. But there’s something about the in person connection that you just can’t beat and you can’t reproduce with something like Zoom or even VR when that becomes more commonplace. If you’re in Austin listening to this, shoot me a message. Let’s grab a coffee and connect because there are certainly some great communities here. And if you don’t have them around you, you might wanna consider building an in person community. Super rewarding, not only for accountability, but also for bouncing ideas off and getting motivation and inspiration. And if you follow the concept of the blue zones, that’s speculated to be one of the driving factors of the increased longevity among those populations.
Nick Urban [00:27:32]:
Whether it actually is or not is less important because research shows that your perceived social life is what matters most. Well, I have to run. It’s getting late over here. I’ve got an appointment. That is a small list of some of the trends I see coming in 2025, but I’d like to hear from you. What do you think is going to be the big trend of 2025? What’s gonna be the major disruption?
